About Cathy Cervin
Cathy Cervin
Board Member
Dr. Cervin is a retired family physician. After attending medical school at the University of Toronto, she completed her residency at Dallhousie and then practiced full-scope family medicine including obstetrics in Sault Ste Marie and Timmins, Ontario for seven years. Cathy returned to Halifax to take on academic and clinical leadership roles including Hospital Chief of the Department of Family Medicine at the Grace Maternity Hospital (now the IWK),
Residency Program Director and Interim Department Head Dalhousie Department of Family Medicine; Postgrad Dean and then Vice Dean Academic Northern Ontario School of Medicine University from 2011 to 2022.
Her national Board experience includes serving as President of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and membership on the Boards of the Canadian Residency Matching Service and the Canadian Association of Medical Education. Her community advocacy over the years focused on women’s health, patient-centred maternity care, rural Family Medicine, and social justice.
Since retiring in 2023 she has focused on advocacy through her work with Canadian Doctors for Medicare and Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and running as a candidate, both in the Halifax municipal and Nova Scotia provincial elections in 2024.
